Aston Villa v Newcastle Football Betting

Premier League Betting & Odds

Premier League Match Betting Overview

Aston Villa welcome their former manager, Steve Bruce and his Newcastle side to Villa Park, where a full house is expected for the first time since before lockdown. Dean Smith’s side suffered an abject start last week with a 3-2 defeat to newly promoted Watford.

He will be keen to prove his side can perform without Jack Grealish, following his record breaking move to Man City, but he will have to find the right balance for his starting 11 after a range of new signings over the summer.

For Newcastle, they too suffered an opening game defeat last week, losing 4-2  at home to West Ham. They will hope they can turn things around against Villa to kickstart their season.

Who will come out on top?

Aston Villa Betting

Dean Smith will be hoping last season’s top scorer Ollie Watkins is available, following a knock that kept him out last week. Also, there may be a series of changes following a number of poor performances against Watford. Matt Targett could be dropped at left back, making way for Ashley Young, whilst Anwar El Ghazi could make way for new signing Leon Bailey, who looked sharp and got an assist for John McGinn’s goal when he came on as sub against Watford.

It will be interesting to see if Danny Ings plays alongside Watkins if he’s fit also.

Newcastle Betting

Newcastle will be hoping to be more resolute defensively against Villa, after shipping four goals last week in spite of playing a back five! They can still expect Calum Wilson and Allan Saint Maximin to be a goal threat, but Steve Bruce must try and find the balance between defence and attack.

As the home side, and finishing higher than Newcastle last season, Villa will be slight favourites for this game. They also won the same fixture 2-0 last season, with Ollie Watkins on the scoresheet. Could he repeat the feat this season? Could both teams score after their opening game results?
